The first lesson of Building the Blues Series 2 is called Introducing the Dominant 7th. In this lesson James begins to build on the learnings from Building the Blues Series 1, before bringing in the Dominant 7th chords you will learn throughout this series. Building The Blues Series 2 - Lesson 2

Lesson 2 of Building the Blues Series 2 is called Keep it Simple, Keep it Bluesy. While you might get a clue from the title, when it comes to simple and blues that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of room for creativity! James kicks off with a brief explanation before starting to play, and you'll soon be playing around yourself and learning where and how to play these Dominant 7ths. This is a great lesson for helping you to focus in on what you're doing and honing your creativity effectively. Keep it Simple, Keep it Bluesy, and have fun starting your improvising over our 12 bar blues backing track.

Building The Blues Series 2 - Lesson 3

In Lesson 3 James begins to introduce Dominant 7th arpeggios, playing them over the three chords you have looked at in Building the Blues Series 2 so far. For those unaware of what arpeggios are James offers a brief explanation, though for the experienced sax players out there a refresher is never a bad thing. James is then straight into playing these arpeggios for you to try for yourself, before moving onto putting them into your overall improvisations. By the end of this lesson you'll have some brilliant additional tricks and tips for your Dominant 7th arpeggios.

Building The Blues Series 2 - Lesson 4

Lesson 4 is called Phrases, Licks, and Language, and is all about giving you some additional phrases and licks to use in your sax playing. The lesson kicks off with a brief overview from James before you get straight into playing. James shows you a selection of his favourite blues licks then invites you to try them yourself. James uses a number of minor pentatonic licks, which will be familiar to those that have already completed Building the Blues Series 1, along with a selection of other great sounding riffs.

Building The Blues Series 2 - Lesson 5

In lesson 5 James looks at Call and Response. Again we begin with a summary of what call and response is and the idea behind it from James, who has his sax handy and ready to play so he can give you a live demonstration as he talks through it. To master your call and response technique you will use notes on the G minor pentatonic scale, and as work through this lesson you'll find your sax playing becoming ever more structured. We know, structure sounds boring, but in this instance it'll make you a better player and your sax solos sound incredible. Check out call and response for yourself now!

Building The Blues Series 2 - Lesson 6

The final lesson of Building the Blues Series 2 is aptly titled Putting it all Together. This is a brilliant lesson for anyone that has also completed Building the Blues Series 1 as it combines a number of the techniques and tricks taught throughout both of these series. You'll be using the minor pentatonic scale, the blues scale, and the Dominant 7th scale among others to play some brilliant licks as James helps you to put it all together and play blues sax like a pro.
