Funk Licks Series 2 - Lesson 1
In lesson one of Funk Licks Series 2, James recaps the purpose of the Funk Licks series' and recaps how these series accompany his Funk Improvisation series, in this case the series being a complement to Funk Improvisation Series 2. With recaps done, James is straight into showing you the first two licks of this series, continuing where he left off in Funk Licks Series 1 by breaking down each lick to make it easy for you to practice, put together, or even change into your own version.
Funk Licks Series 2 - Lesson 2
Lesson two of Funk Licks Series 2 brings you another two great sounding, funky licks for you to add to your sax repertoire. As always, James takes his time to demonstrate the licks to you before talking you through the lick, helping you to simulate and visualise the beat, before breaking them down so they're easy to practice, helping you to get on the path to mastering them quicker than you otherwise would. At this stage the Funk Licks are starting to get a little more challenging, but if you've been playing along with James since Funk Licks Series 1 this will definitely feel like a natural progression.
Funk Licks Series 2 - Lesson 3
Lesson three brings you another two amazing funk licks, and again the rhythmic complexity continues to increase as James teaches you more exciting riffs for you to try for yourself. These licks are also starting to bring in different techniques and tricks that you might have learned from James' other series but also from our other tutors such as Craig Crofton, Andy Sheppard, and Roberto Manzin. James talks about offbeats and accents within these licks and why they're important, while as always giving you plenty of time and opportunities to play them for yourself.
Funk Licks Series 2 - Lesson 4
Get set for another two incredible sounding funky licks here in lesson four. James is straight into playing the licks while explaining how he is using the Blues scale to create these specific funk licks. As these licks again continue to become more complex, James breaks each down slowly and systematically, meaning it is easy for you to practice just one part of the lick if there's a specific component you're struggling to nail down. Use the practices and tips provided by James to master these funk licks and progress to learning the final licks featured in Funk Licks Series 2.
Funk Licks Series 2 - Lesson 5
In lesson five of Funk Licks Series 2 the licks become longer and again more challenging. If you've followed James' Funk genre series from the start however then you'll be skilled at breaking down James' teachings and be already working in his ideas to your own improvisations and solos almost habitually. As with all these Funk Licks lessons, this lesson sees you learning another two funky licks, broken down and explained by James before being enjoyed in context with the backing track playing in the background. Master these licks before moving onto the sixth and final lesson of Funk Licks Series 2.
Funk Licks Series 2 - Lesson 6
In the sixth and final lesson of Funk Licks Series 2 you'll learn another two amazing funky licks. These are the most complex and challenging yet, but again are wonderful additions to your funk sax repertoire. As always these licks are de-constructed for ease of understanding and practice, but what you really want to do is get the backing track playing and start playing these licks! The final lick of the lesson and of Funk Licks Series 2 is relatively simple compared to some of the later licks in this series, but is a great final addition before you head off to play your funk sax solos yourself.
Funk Licks Series 2 - Example Solo
In this fantastic Example Solo to accompany Funk Licks Series 2, you can join James as he plays some brilliant funky licks while our exceptional backing track plays in the background. You've learned from James and hopefully you've been able to take the lessons and start to play like James; watching James could be the final piece of the jigsaw to help empower you to master these funk licks and incorporate them into your own solos. Funk Licks Series 2 - Tone and Gear
